Event reminds participants of the meaning of Memorial Day

WPS Health Solutions kicked off the Memorial Day weekend with ‘A Walk to Remember’ event

MADISON, Wis.—May 31, 2023—Employees, local veterans, and supporters kicked off the Memorial Day weekend by remembering those who never made it home. On May 26, WPS hosted “A Walk to Remember” at its Madison campus. About two dozen walkers had the chance to honor and remember U.S. military personnel and veterans who have died.

“Memorial Day honors the men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military. This solemn occasion is a time to reflect on those who made the ultimate sacrifice while protecting and defending our country,” WPS Military Affairs Manager Tim La Sage said. “We will never forget our veterans who have passed.”

Participants were able to sign a banner with the names of those they were remembering during the Memorial Day weekend. Walkers each carried a brick to symbolize the weight of loss or weight of mental health carried every day by veterans and their families.

“Family members that have lost a military member—they carry that weight with them every day, not just Memorial Day," Tim said.
