WPS employees, friends donate holiday gifts for students in need

MADISON, Wis.—Dec. 17, 2020—Employees and friends of WPS Health Solutions in Madison donated more than 750 holiday gifts for students and families in need at WPS’ adopted school, Dr. Virginia Henderson Elementary. The gifts were delivered by WPS on Dec. 16.

Megan Willauer, Director of Events & Strategic Partnerships, coordinated the gift drive with the school, which provided a confidential list of families that were in financial need. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, WPS employees were encouraged to donate through an Amazon Wish List that Megan created specifically for the children at Henderson and their siblings.

WPS employees and their friends purchased 758 gifts valued at approximately $17,000. The gifts are going to 305 children from 119 families that have students attending Henderson. (Each family could request two gifts per child.) Gifts were organized in bags for each family and then parents picked up the gifts later in the day.

“This year, more than ever, families across the country are struggling to not only put food on their tables but also provide gifts for their kids this holiday season. WPS looked for ways to help brighten the holiday season for families in need,” Willauer said.

Three Madison TV stations and Spectrum News covered the donation event.
