At WPS Health Solutions, helping veterans has always been a part of our mission. WPS was founded in 1946 in part to help World War II veterans returning to Wisconsin get the affordable health care that they needed.

We remain committed to those who serve our country. At WPS, hiring veterans is a priority. We wanted to share some of their stories with you.

  • Role at WPS: Accounting Clerk V
  • Hometown: Lacon, Ill.
  • Military service: 1983-1992
  • Branch of service: U.S. Air Force
  • Rank: E5 Staff Sergeant

Q: Why did you join the military?
A: I was 27 years old and needed to change the way my life was going (or not going). My parents, grandfather, aunt, and uncle all served during WWII (WWI and WWII for my grandfather) and I always enjoyed the stories about it. I also needed an income that would cover my bills.

Fun Fact: My first tour of duty after basic training and tech school was Osan AB, South Korea. I was in Accounting and Finance. A Tech Sergeant (E5) came to my cashier window to get advance pay, as he had just got in the country. It was a slow day. He talked to me for a few minutes and asked me out on a date. He asked me to marry him six days later. We were married six weeks later and have been married for 38 years. To this day, he says he fell in love with my green eyes on the day we met.
